What to expect at Racket Club

Facts:

With Racket Club, developer Resolution Games has created a new sport that combines elements of tennis and pickleball. It is designed for challenging multiplayer matches (1v1 and 2v2) and offers a strong social component. Players can meet and get to know each other in a sports club environment.

Players earn experience points for completing matches, which can be used to unlock cosmetic items and new rackets. These have an impact on the game experience. At launch there will be 20 different rackets, each with different spin, speed, and mass.

There are also single player modes: In “Training” mode you can immediately compete against an AI rival. “Drills” are exercises that teach basic and advanced techniques to improve your game, and “Career” mode lets you compete against AI rivals in single player championships.

The AI opponents have been trained using anonymized movement data from human players and deep reinforcement learning and deep imitation learning.

This makes them behave like real players: “By training bots on data collected from human-played matches rather than pre-designed patterns of behavior, we’re able to offer rivals in Racket Club whose play is indistinguishable from real life competitors,” says lead AI engineer Mikhail Jacob.

Racket Club also features a mixed reality mode that allows you to project your side of the court and teammates into your living room. The mode supports Meta Quest 3, Quest 2, Quest Pro and Pico 4.
