The Future Is Now

Ultrawings 2 takes to the skies on Playstation VR 2

Ultrawings 2 is the first full-fledged flight game for Playstation VR 2 and accidentally took off too early from the Playstation Store.

Ultrawings 2 was released yesterday on the Playstation Store, apparently earlier than Bit Planet Games had planned, as there was no announcement or targeted marketing in advance.

The studio wrote on Twitter that the release was “unforeseen,” but didn’t go into detail about why that happened.

Bit Planet Games notes that the current version of the game has “relatively minor issues” that should have been with fixed with a Day 1 patch, which will follow sometime next week. One of the issues affects the HOTAS controls. According to the studio, there is a workaround until the patch is released. And you can also use the Sense controllers to play Ultrawings 2.

Otherwise the game should run fine. Foveated rendering is not supported, but according to the studio, the game runs at a stable 90 Hz. Visually, the PSVR 2 version is based on the PC VR version (see trailer below).

Ultrawings 2 is inspired by Pilotwings 64 and is designed for accessibility. It is considered one of the best and most versatile flight games for virtual reality and was first released for Meta Quest and SteamVR in 2022.

Bit Planet Games describes Ultrawings 2 as an open-world flying game with six very different aircraft, hundreds of single-player missions, and multiple islands to explore at different times of day. There are also multiplayer dogfights for up to eight players.

Ultrawings 2 is available on the Quest Store, Steam, and the Playstation Store for $20.
