Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR sales were disappointing and that will affect the company’s VR investments.
During Ubisoft’s latest Q3 earnings call, CEO Yves Guillemot called Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR sales disappointing and indicated investment in VR won’t increase. That’s bad news for the industry since this is one of the most beautiful and engaging titles released since the launch of the Quest 3.
Speaking about Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, Guillemot said, “It did okay, and it continues to sell, but we thought it would sell more, so we are not increasing our investment in VR at the moment because it needs to take off.”
Ubisoft has explored VR more than most big game developers, but this isn’t the first time it’s expressed concern for the industry. For example, Splinter Cell VR was canceled last year.
Meta highlighted the game in several promotions, and it received favorable reviews in the media. There has been a flood of new VR games so perhaps shoppers were a bit overloaded with options.
