The Future Is Now

Two VR superhits launch on Vision Pro, and Quest users benefit too

Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator have been released for Vision Pro, and there is also good news for Quest users.

The VR classics Job Simulator (2016) and Vacation Simulator (2019) are now available for Vision Pro. The Vision Pro versions include the free content updates “Infinite Overtime” (for Job Simulator) and “Back to Job” (for Vacation Simulator).

Job Simulator costs $20 and Vacation Simulator costs $30 on the visionOS App Store.

“Owlchemy Labs has always been committed to pioneering hand tracking technology and putting our games on the most innovative platforms,” Andrew Eiche, CEO at Owlchemy Labs, said. “The fully immersive environments look stunning on Apple Vision Pro, and the games have been optimized for the hand- and eye-tracking capabilities of the platform.”

Another announcement concerns the Quest versions of the VR games.

Vacation Simulator received experimental support for hand tracking in November 2020, and this has been steadily improved over the years.

Now, hand tracking has left the experimental phase and is available for both VR games, making both titles playable from start to finish with hand tracking. “This update enables better movements and organic interactions making both games feel more intuitive and natural while playing without controllers on Quest,” Owlchemy Labs writes.

Two of the biggest VR hits

Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator have each sold more than one million copies, making Owlchemy Labs the first studio to release two VR-exclusive platinum titles. Owlchemy Labs was acquired by Google in 2017.

Job Simulator is set in a future where robots have replaced all human jobs. Nostalgic humans can sign up for a series of job simulations and experience what it was like to go to work. In the sequel, Vacation Simulator, players visit “Vacation Island,” where the robots enjoy dream vacations.

Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator are among the first big, fully immersive VR games to hit Apple’s headset. A few days ago, the tabletop adventure Demeo was released for Vision Pro.
