The Future Is Now

The VR version of a celebrated adventure game will soon disappear from Steam forever

The award-winning mystery adventure The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will soon disappear from Steam in its VR version.

The VR version of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will be removed from Steam on Friday. This was announced by developer studio The Astronauts in an update on the PC gaming platform. The studio is no longer able to support the VR version. It cannot guarantee that the game will remain compatible with future VR headsets and operating systems. The VR DLC will therefore be removed from sale. However, the standard PC version will still be available.

The good news: Nothing will change for owners of the VR version. As long as the game is compatible with your hardware, you can continue to use it. However, if you don’t own the VR version of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and want to give it a try, you’d better hurry. The price is just under $10.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter: Award-winning mystery adventure game

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a first-person mystery adventure game released in 2014 by Polish studio The Astronauts. You play a paranormal investigator who answers a call for help from a young boy named Ethan Carter. In Ethan’s hometown, Red Creek Valley, you will find signs of violence, destroyed houses, and strange visions.

With no direct storyline, you explore an open world, searching for clues and solving puzzles to uncover the tragic story of Ethan and his family. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter won the BAFTA Games Award for Innovation, as well as several other awards.

Originally released for PC, it was later adapted for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The VR version was also released in 2016.
