The Future Is Now

The official Ghostbusters VR game gets a release date and PSVR 2 trailer

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is coming to Playstation VR 2 and Meta Quest in October.

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord was designed from the ground up for virtual reality and expands the Ghostbusters universe with a new story, new location (San Francisco!), new equipment, and a new cast.

The studios responsible, nDreams (Phantom: Covert Ops, Synapse) and Sony Pictures Virtual Reality, describe the VR game as follows:

The VR game supports single player, but is designed for co-op play. It pits you and up to three friends against the eponymous villain and his minions to save San Francisco.

Special features of the PSVR 2 version

During the State of Play, nDreams presented the first trailer showing gameplay from the PSVR 2 version and announced that Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord will be released just in time for Halloween on October 26th for Playstation VR 2, Meta Quest 2, and Meta Quest 3.

On the PlayStation Blog, the studio discusses the special features of the PSVR 2 version. Eye tracking will make it easier to navigate menus, grab objects from a distance, and see where other players are looking. You can even wink at each other.

Graphically, the PSVR 2 version shines with better lighting effects, as well as various “ethereal ghost effects” that are supposed to evoke memories of the movies and occur when ghosts fly at you and through you. Thanks to the headset’s haptics, you should even be able to feel that.

Adaptive triggers have also been used to make the PKE meter and proton blaster even more immersive, or to make you feel like you’re actually smashing mini-puffs (see the trailer above).

Two editions, available for pre-order now

There are two editions available for Playstation VR 2: the base game for $35 and the Full Containment Edition for $55. The latter includes the game, upcoming DLC, and bonus content. Both editions are now available for pre-order for a 10 percent discount. For Meta Quest, you can currently only pre-order the Full Containment Edition for the same price and discount.

In the following video, the developers reveal more details about the VR game and hint at upcoming DLC.
