Swarovski Files NFT and Metaverse Trademark Applications

Swarovski files NFT and Metaverse trademark applications.

Austrian jewelry company Swarovski has filed NFT, metaverse, and web3 trademark applications. The news was shared by the United States Patent and Trademark Office licensed trademark attorney, Michael Kondoudis. The Austrian company noted for its crystals and jewelry designs filed the applications on May 30.

According to Kondoudis’ tweet, the brand plans to release virtual reality glasses. In addition, Swarovski will issue downloadable digital files authenticated by NFTs. These can include sound and video recordings of fashion shows, videos, and memes. In addition, the brand plans to release downloadable virtual goods that feature precious stones and their imitations, as well as jewelry and accessories, watches, and clocks. More than that, Swarovski intends to issue downloadable virtual stationery, pens, writing instruments, eyewear, and even clothing, footwear, and handbags.

Swarovski’s web3 move aligns with its ongoing rebranding effort. In 2021, the company hired its first-ever creative director, Giovanna Engelbert. She has already changed the way customers perceive the company. Just a few years ago, Swarovski was seen as a non-trendy brand. In the past two years, it has released multiple jewelry pieces that today can be found on many fashionistas’ wish lists.

The Austrian brand is among the many well-known companies and celebrities that have recently applied for web3-related trademarks. In May this year, David Beckham, Billie Eilish, and Doctor Who filed NFT and metaverse trademark applications. Haribo filed trademarks with plans to issue NFTs and wearable technology devices, including VR and smart glasses, while the Football Association Premier League filed trademark applications to develop cryptocurrency and blockchain software, as well as an NFT marketplace and digital garment.
