The Future Is Now

Resident Evil meets Silent Hill in Virtual Reality: The Bounds VR focuses on deep psychological horror

The Bounds VR aims to combine the game mechanics of Resident Evil with the dark atmosphere of Silent Hill to create a unique VR horror experience.

The Bounds VR takes you to an eerie mansion in the American south of Louisiana and relies on voodoo elements such as the mysterious figure of Baron Samedi. As the protagonist, Booker, you must search for your missing daughter and uncover a mysterious curse.

With The Bounds VR, the team at Build the Light Studio wants to tell a deep psychological horror story, the outcome of which you influence yourself with your decisions. According to the developers, the game is based on the classic mechanics and pacing of Resident Evil, but focuses more on the atmospheric horror mood of Silent Hill.

In addition to combat with firearms and melee weapons, there will also be paranormal powers to help solve puzzles. Instead of relying on jump scares, The Bounds VR aims to leave a lasting impression. Players should remember their feelings during the experience and feel fear and discomfort.

The Bounds VR is scheduled for release in 2024 for Playstation VR 2 and Steam VR. For a first impression, check out the trailer below.

Resident Evil strongly represented in VR

While the Silent Hill brand has enjoyed a resurgence of late, with new games for PC and consoles, there has yet to be a VR spin-off. Resident Evil, on the other hand, has a strong presence on Sony’s VR headsets. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was released for Playstation VR in 2017. The sequel Resident Evil Village also received a free VR mode for PSVR 2 for owners of the main game.

There are two ways to experience Resident Evil 4 in VR: The 2023 remake received a first-person VR conversion for Playstation VR 2 at the end of last year, while Meta Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro have a third-person VR version of the original Resident Evil 4.
