The Future Is Now

Rare Alien CryptoPunk Sells for $16 Million

A highly sought-after Alien CryptoPunk has changed hands for a staggering $16 million worth of Ether. The transaction represents the second-highest recorded sale of a CryptoPunk.

The anonymous buyer offered 4,500 ETH for CryptoPunk 3100, one of only nine Alien Punks in the collection of 10,000 NFTs. The bid was accepted earlier today after a previous offer of 4,250 ETH failed to elicit a positive response from the seller.

The seller had listed the rare Punk around the $16 million mark, so it’s possible that today’s sharp rally in ETH tipped the scales in favour of a sale. The NFT was purchased for 4,200 ETH – then worth nearly $8 million – in March 2021.

The Alien Punks are the rarest within the CryptoPunks collection, followed by Apes (24) and Zombies (88). Indeed, the record for the most expensive CryptoPunk ever sold is held by another Alien Punk, which fetched $24 million at the peak of NFT mania in 2022.

CryptoPunks have seen trading volumes rise amid the ongoing crypto rally. NFT influencer Gmoney recently borrowed $1 million against his Ape Punk.
