Aces of Thunder, the long-awaited flight simulation developed for Playstation VR 2, is alive and well, as new gameplay shows.
On Instagram, Gaijin Entertainment presents Soviet aircraft from the Eastern Front that you will be able to fly right from the start.
These include the Yak-9, which was also flown by Yugoslav partisans, the lighter and more maneuverable Yak-3, and the earlier IL-2 fighter, one of the most famous aircraft in history, nicknamed the “Flying Tank” by its engineers for its ability to destroy German tanks.
Aces of Thunder was announced for Playstation VR 2 in March 2023. Since then, the studio has been releasing teasers like this.
At the end of 2023, it was announced that development was almost complete. Six months later, Gaijin has still not announced a release window, but we certainly hope it will be in 2024.
The studio promises more details soon about the machines that held back the Luftwaffe in the early stages of the war. This is likely to refer to the Royal Air Force fighters, including the British Spitfire.
The first realistic flight simulation for Playstation VR 2
Aces of Thunder is the second full-fledged flight game for Sony’s VR headset after Ultrawings 2, but with a greater claim to realism. It is being developed by Gaijin Entertainment, the studio behind War Thunder, one of the most popular online military action games.
Aces of Thunder focuses on World War II aircraft and features physically accurate flight and damage models from War Thunder to ensure realistic air combat. The game is played exclusively from the cockpit perspective with full control of all flight systems.
The game is being developed specifically for the capabilities of the Playstation VR 2, runs stable at 90 Hz and will feature several competitive online game modes such as team-based PVP and 1v1 duels.
