Supermassive Games is giving the horror rollercoaster “The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR” an update with new content just in time for Halloween.
The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR did not get off to a good start on Sony’s Playstation VR 2. Originally, the exclusive title was supposed to be released at the launch of the VR headset and showcase the PSVR 2’s eye-tracking capabilities with an interesting gameplay mechanic: ghosts in the game world react to players’ blinking.
Then, at the end of January, it was announced that Switchback VR would be delayed and would not be released until March. At launch, the horror game disappointed with poor graphics. Three months later, Supermassive Games fixed numerous bugs and improved the graphics.
Now, just in time for the scariest time of the year, a major update has been released, adding a new horde mode.
Hordes of monsters and increased difficulty
In Horde Mode, you will face massive waves of enemies. With each successfully completed room, the difficulty level increases and the enemies become tougher. The new game mode is designed to add a new level of challenge to the strengths of the main game.
“Our focus on Horde Mode was to deliver fast-paced, intense action combat with additional rollercoaster thrills where facing your fears are taken to a whole new level,” said Alejandro Arque Gallardo, Game Director at Supermassive Games.
Extreme roller coaster rides for adrenaline junkies
According to Gallardo, the blink feature, for example, will be even more intense in the new mode. For adrenaline junkies, there are also new, extreme roller coaster rides between rooms.
“For our new horde mode we have really pushed this to extreme levels – we have certainly tested the boundaries on how big we could make these drops and how much speed we could add to the car,” explains Gallardo.
The Horde Mode update for The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR is available now and can be downloaded for free from PlayStation Store.
