The Future Is Now

One of VR’s biggest combat games nears completion

The VR combat simulation Blade & Sorcery will be leaving Early Access next week and getting a long-awaited game mode.

Blade & Sorcery is leaving Early Access on Steam after five years of development. With the release of “The End Update” on June 17, the physics-based sandbox combat game will reach version 1.0.

The biggest new feature in the new update is the Crystal Hunt progression mode, which integrates the sandbox combat into a story and allows players to explore the lore of the fantasy world.

Leaving Early Access will raise the price from $20 to $30. If you want to buy the game, you should do so before June 17th.

The Quest version of the game, Blade & Sorcery: Nomad, will also receive the update at a later date. Warpfrog will not commit to a release date, but expects several months of development time.

“In the decision to release Nomad as standalone and not merge both versions into one game, we essentially doubled our work because it meant we had two separate developments to support. However this was the only way to make sure PCVR development was not limited by the Quest 2 hardware, so this is why Nomad is a completely separated “made for Quest” sister-title”, the studio writes on Steam.

If you want to learn more about Blade & Sorcery and the new game mode: There is a longer interview with Warpfrog on the Quest Blog.

Blade & Sorcery is the ultimate VR power fantasy

Warpfrog describes Blade & Sorcery as a medieval fantasy sandbox that focuses on melee, ranged, and spell-based combat using a physics-based interaction and combat system.

Collisions are dictated by fine hitboxes, objects have weight and follow the laws of physics, creatures have full-body physics and presence, and blades can be used to pierce soft materials or deflect magic.

The studio has struck a chord with its hyper-realistic combat simulation. It currently has more than 45,000 reviews on Steam and just as many on the Meta Quest platform, making it one of the most popular VR games of all time.
