The Future Is Now

Meta Quest 3 could herald strong upswing in VR market

According to IDC, sales of VR headsets fell 44.6% year over year in the second quarter of 2023. This is due to a slowing global economy and price hikes for the best-selling VR headset, the Quest 2. For the full year, IDC expects only 8.5 million headsets to be shipped – about the same as in 2017. Next year, however, the research firm expects a 46.8% increase, driven primarily by the Meta Quest 3, which will launch in a few weeks. In addition, the Apple Vision Pro will be launched in 2024 and new hardware from ByteDance is also expected. Accordingly, 30.3 million units could be sold worldwide by 2027.
