The Future Is Now

Did Meta just accidentally reveal the official name of the new Quest 3 Lite?

Quest 3S instead of Quest 3 Lite? An entry in the Horizon Store points to the official name of the budget Quest 3.

The official name of an upcoming, cheaper version of the Meta Quest 3 may have just surfaced — in Meta’s own app store. On the product page of the Alo Moves XR app, a “Meta Quest 3S” is listed among the supported devices. This entry fuels speculation that the budget headset, previously referred to as the “Quest 3 Lite” or simply the “new Quest”, might actually be called the Quest 3S.

Meta itself has not yet officially confirmed the existence or the name of such a headset.

Hints of Meta Quest 3 and a cheaper model grow stronger

Even before the announcement of the Quest 3, an entry in the Meta Quest companion app caused speculation. At that time, hardware analyst Bradley Lynch published a screenshot showing the entry “Eureka” in the device selection menu next to Quest, Quest 2 and Quest Pro — a code name that appeared in the Quest firmware and was associated with the Quest 3. The name “Meta Quest 3S” could therefore also serve as a placeholder, although this would be a very strange choice for a code name.

Although it is still unclear when the new Quest 3 will be released, it should be clear by now that it will be released. According to rumors, the low-cost Quest 3 should arrive this year and will replace the Quest 2. Meta is currently selling the Meta Quest 2 at a reduced price, presumably to clear stock before the launch of the successor.

VR enthusiast Luna also claims to have received information from several developers about a developer kit for the “Meta Quest 3 Lite” or “Meta Quest 3S”. According to her, the device will have a similar chipset and many of the features of the regular Quest 3, but with some cuts in the display and lenses.
