EDM artist deadmau5 launches collaboration with VR music platform Soundscape, presenting an exclusive virtual concert with immersive sound and psychedelic visuals.
VR music platform Soundscape has teamed up with renowned EDM producer deadmau5. As part of the collaboration, deadmau5 will perform a series of exclusive virtual concerts on the platform, showcasing his latest tracks.
Users will be able to experience the performance in a world created especially for deadmau5. The world will feature spatial audio, psychedelic visuals and even a 30 meter tall deadmau5 avatar.
From visualizer to event platform
The announcement of the collaboration with deadmau5 comes on the heels of a major update to Soundscape, which transforms the platform into an impressive storm of effects thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The latest update also includes a Soundskin avatar creation feature and the fourth version of Sonic AI, Soundscape’s audiovisual engine, which improves the aesthetics and responsiveness of the visuals.
Originally launched in 2017 as an addition to the Burning Man festival in Colorado, the app has steadily evolved from a 3D audio visualizer to a social VR platform with public and private spaces and virtual clubs.

In 2022, Soundscape created a virtual festival environment for Slash feat. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators. Another prominent example of a VR concert is “Looking Inside” by Avenged Sevenfold. The show, which was released at the end of February, lets you experience the heavy metal band up close. Spectacular effects accompany the genre-appropriate locations.
However, an interactive component is still missing. The audience can move their hands and make gestures, but they cannot actively influence the action. There is still room for improvement to differentiate VR concerts from simple 180-degree videos.
