Coinbase Puts Bored Ape Movie Trilogy on Hold

Reasons for Coinbase putting its Bored Ape movie trilogy on hold include a lack of creative flair alongside a bear market that won’t budge

At the end of last year, Coinbase announced the creation of its film trilogy featuring Bored Apes. However, after much anticipation, the crypto exchange has put the Degen Trilogy on hold following creativity and industry concerns.

Quick Take:

  • No video content for Coinbase’s Bored Ape movie trilogy has been created since July.
  • All three films were due to be released following Coinbase’s NFT marketplace launch.
  • Coinbase blames a lack of creativity and the current market for stopping work from now on.

Why’s Coinbase’s Bored Ape Movie Trilogy on the Back Burner?

In December last year, Coinbase revealed its plans to unveil a trio of short films featuring Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs. Interestingly, the owners of the apes received payment for Coinbase using their images.

These films were to launch in June at one of the world’s largest NFT conferences, NFT.NY. Then, the crypto exchange switched plans to unveil the short movie for the first time following the start date of its NFT marketplace.

Nevertheless, Coinbase has continuously put the Degen Trilogy on the back burner. It has yet to get past the first part of film-making since July 2022, which consists of a five-minute animated feature of numerous Bored Ape cameos.

The exchange has put both second and third installments for creating the movie on hold following a lack of creative flair from the team behind the project.

Other factors causing the delays include the bear market and, potentially, the aftermath following FTX’s bankruptcy.
