The Future Is Now

Asgard’s Wrath 2: Quest 3 texture pack is ‘very close’, first screenshots

The Quest 3 version of Asgard’s Wrath 2 is set to receive its High Rez Texture Pack soon. A preview gives an impression of the visual difference.

The High Rez Texture Pack was announced in January and has been in testing for months. According to Oculus Studios producer Mike Doran, the texture upgrade is so large that it could take up 10GB of storage or even more.

In a two-week-old Reddit post that we initially missed, Doran confirmed that the texture pack will be part of the game (so not a separate download) and that you will be able to toggle it on or off in the options, just like previous Quest 3 specific visual upgrades for Asgard’s Wrath 2. So if you’re more concerned with performance than graphics, you can turn off the high-resolution textures or compare them to the standard textures of the Quest 2 version at any time.

As for performance drops, Doran doesn’t “anticipate anything major here”, but he won’t “guarantee that there are no dips anywhere, ever”. “There are many factors involved – where in the game you are, what’s happening on screen, are you running 90hz or not, etc,” Doran writes.

In the same Reddit post, Doran published screenshots of the Deathstalker enemy with and without the improved textures. He added that the environmental updates are probably his favorite part of the texture pack.

He says the studio expects the texture pack to be released in “May or June”, but Sanzaru Games is “trying very hard for May”.
